I've looked around a bit for information on this new storefront next to the Granville el stop and haven't been able to find anything. I even Lexis-Nexus searched it. Not a thing.
Anyway, it seems a bit odd to me to have a Loyola University Campus Police station (Do we call this a station?) off-campus. Their policing powers certainly can't extend down to Granville, so why set up shop there? I don't like it.
This is something the 24th Distrcit cops have been trying to open for at least 2 years. Chicago cops also will have access to this outpsot. Call the 24th District for details.

Hi,
Great blog, I live in the neighborhood as well! There is info on this in the ECC's March 2006 newsletter.

Loyola Campus police officers do have jurisdiction off campus. There are a certain number of POLICE officers, NOT SECURITY officers who have full arrest authority anywhere in the state, the same as Chicago police officers or any other police officers in the State of Illinois. Although the patrol cars do not say "POLICE" they are the real police. The reason for the sub-station on Granville is due to the crimes that take place in that area.

This is true, I live in the area of Granville, and they are the real police, I see them out on the streets making alot of arrests, especially during the middle of the night hours. I have actually spoken to some of these officers, and for the most part they have been cops for awhile, they are all good guys, and they are really good to have around just in case CPD are to damn busy, you can contact the university police at 773-508-6039.
